It’s tempting to analyze music in terms of discernible influences, genres, and styles. Creative musicians bring everything to the mix, so you may well hear flavors of The Pat Metheny Group, Weather Report, Steely Dan – or the Honkyoku Shakuhachi of Yamaguchi Goro – in this music. But it’s the quirky, swirling, grooves that Grant, Gabe, and Jeff conjure that capture you and demand repeated listenings. Always the master of the offbeat – and frequently spiritual – lyric, Jeff plants poetic seeds in your mind that will continue to germinate, grow, and bloom for years. Check out the upbeat shuffle of “Maybe she loves me” for a smooth jazz vibe, or the Latin rhythms of Pearl, featuring the creamy dreamy vocals of Makeda Rose. But for me, the quintessential Vektur piece is “Reaching , with its quirky polyrhythms and meters, unexpected fills and solos, and counterpoint vocals. As Jeff sings: “I’m reaching” – for some part of the cosmic song that is both familiar and never-before-heard.

The 2024 release of the album Eclipse Move by the band Vektur is definitely a fun ride. The ten songs are made up of tunes covering a variety of genres. This primarily jazz band takes on everything to funk to a tune with a late 70’s rock band feel. There are a variety of vocals in some of the songs which at times is not unlike listening to Steely Dan. Lead guitar player Grant Crawford is brilliant; reminiscent of Larry Carlton and Lee Rittenour. He can give the late Eddie Van Halen a run for his money on the song Desire. This album is refreshing, unique and delightful. Take a ride for yourself, you’ll be glad you did.

“20th century”
This was the word came up to my head as soon as I listen to the first track. As one of the 20th century-ers, I have vivid memories of being connected to the world I don’t know by listening various music from radio, vinyl, and tapes. Vektur’s new album < Eclipse Move> brought me pleasant flash back memories and made me happily nostalgic to my almost forgotten era. It has interesting vibes which are new and friendly, shy and funky, smooth and ambitious.
Are you a 20th century-er too? You will know what I mean as soon as you listen to the album.

Eclipse move by Vektur is a masterpiece. This album could only happen with a group of seasoned musicians with a lifetime of experiences.
There is a certainty and calmness to the music.
Jazz fusion at its best with touches of Santana and Steely Dan woven in.
The listener is pulled into their space and time.
Everything about this album is masterful ; from the playing to the arrangements through to the mixing and mastering.
With every listen , I hear more layers of subtlety.
There is freedom within this music and I plan to go there often.

A band born out of a friendship of high school kids in Toronto Canada almost 50 years ago reimagines itself virtually during an international pandemic. This is Vektur.
Eclipse Move is an eclectic voyage and collaboration between multi woodwind instrumentalist, vocalist, programmer, producer Jeff Cairns (Kumamoto Japan) lead and bass guitarist Grant Crawford (Collingwood Canada) and rhythm guitarist Gabe Landry (Ottawa Canada).
Like a fine wine these friends have aged with elegance, nuance and virtuosity both lyrically and instrumentally. A tasty blend enhanced by the outstanding contributions of pianist Keiko Shiga (Kumamoto Japan) and vocalist Makeda Rose (NYC USA).
A truly remarkable project and one I know you will enjoy. Check it out!

Welcome to Vektur! This is some of the sweetest jazz one could hope to hear, and
some of the nicest jazz I’ve heard in ages. With a mixture of upbeat rhythms, soaring
melodies, and thoughtful lyrics, this album will be a welcome addition to any drive
through a green forest, or a day on a sunny beach. It’s much more upbeat than I
thought at first listening, a fact which made me go back to it several times. Lovely
melodic guitar lines mix with powerful male and female vocals make it something
different, yet there is something familiar about it, too. Take some time to experience
Vektur and you’ll be happy you did.
Happy listening.
