Hey fam, we just finished a new piece of music called Last Paddle. It was inspired by Gabe as a tribute to his deep-felt experience of canoeing Algonquin Park with his son last year. Vektur took up the challenge and crafted lyrics and vocal melody that fit a loose band arrangement. We initially went with our gift of a contributing vocalist, Makeda Rose, to do the vocals, but it felt that the song kept edging toward a rock feel. So Jeff took up the challenge on vocals and came up with an unexpected gravel in his voice that worked, a la Tom Waits. The song evolved with excellent guitar interpretations by Grant and Gabe, as well as rock drums by Grant’s younger brother Brent Crawford. Keyboards in way of piano and organ were expertly introduced by our ongoing keyboard contributor, Keiko Shiga and here the song sits. We hope you like it.
